People Skills: Networking
A society is formed by its people. No matter where we go may it be an educational institution, workplace or even social gatherings we will never be alone. We will always come across people, some maybe new or maybe the same old people we work with everyday. Getting along with your colleagues is critical to your own happiness and success. You may find yourself spending more time with your co-workers than with your family. As I take a trip down the memory lane I recall that I have travelled so much in my life till now, it has been full of exploration and experiences in terms of meeting new people, adjusting to different environments, coping up with different regional language barriers and most important of all socializing and getting along with people. I have come across the different cultural diversities and the rich heritage that India boasts of. As far as my personal opinion is concerned, I think that without the assistance of our colleagues it is always difficult to manage a work alone. So the first step towards getting the assistance is to accept the others uniqueness and idiosyncrasies. Generally you think that an individual with a different race or
national origin is peculiar or has strange habits. I find that people with regardless of race, national origin, gender or age want the same things, everyone wants to achieve their targets and reach their own personal milestones that they set for themselves. What a boring world it would have been if everyone had the same physical characteristics and intellectual thinking, if you are to have a smooth journey and succeed in life then you have to act like you are on the diversity bandwagon. The real difficulty in relating to fellow workers comes
from differences in emotional maturity, intelligence and
level of dedication to the given work. Professionalism and pride in your work may be important to
you, but don't expect everyone to have those same values. You need
to form good relationships with any co-worker whose
cooperation you need in order to perform your tasks and in order to achieve that you have to initiate and engage in small talk, try and read the mindset of your fellow workers. Nowadays organizations lay more focus on projects that require team members working together and bring out out their best efforts to complete the project. So, you can't be tentative and demotivated in your actions and thoughts sharing because then you could be considered weak and be easily suppressed, you have to be bold and positive to get your work done. People gravitate towards other people who
make them feel good.
You must impress upon them that you are not a threat. You
will not criticize them, nor threaten their job security.
Help them understand that cooperation would be mutually
advantageous.
people's skills: Leadership
In the present scenario, there is a buzz all around about developing and enhancing all sorts of soft skills;be it the communication skills, interpersonal skills, or leadership qualities because the rat race of earning as much money as possible has given an uncontrollable pace to our lives and we are gradually moving away from all these. They are equally important in our personal lives as they are in professional lives.
Here, I would like to focus on leadership qualities and what does it actually means.
Ideally, a leader wants people to follow to him because of the trust and respect they have earned, not because they are told to. In order to achieve this, a leader needs credibility.
Leadership roles are all around us, not only in our work environment but also in our personal lives. For eg. I follow my father because I respect him and his decisions are always for my benefit. Leadership is more about effective decision making. Anybody can be good leader if he is a good decision maker. These qualities do not come by their own; nobody is a born leader. Knowledge, rational thinking, authority, vision and circumstances play an important role to inculcate these skills in us. For an instance, a young boy from a village becomes an IAS officer, does not mean that he had these qualities in him since his birth but during the course of his journey when he encounters with real life situations; when he deals with the people, there problems, there needs; his decisions and actions make him a leader.
So, to conclude I would like to say that you just need to be a good human being, an analytical thinker and self confident and rest life teaches you all.
